Kavana Central Restaurant is a must-visit destination for seafood enthusiasts and dessert connoisseurs. On a tranquil Sunday during the off-season, I found a seat in a shaded square, surrounded by lively music emanating from a nearby bar and the steady flow of people entering and exiting the numerous narrow alleys of the old city. I imagine in peak summer, this place would be bustling with activity.<br><br>Given my preference for seafood, I opted for the restaurant’s exquisite seafood selection. For those with a serious appetite, they have a premium menu for seafood and meats available. While I have had the pleasure of savouring various seafood dishes over the years, none have come close to the unique taste of this particular dish. The selection consisted of a harmonious blend of monkfish, crab, mussels, and accompanied by a side of creamy mashed potatoes.<br><br>I wholeheartedly recommend this dish to any seafood enthusiast. For dessert, the restaurant offered an enticing assortment displayed in a glass case. At the time of writing, an Igloo-shaped mousse was particularly captivating, and I couldn’t resist indulging in it - perfect for any of you Foodie influencers.<br><br>The entire meal including a cappuccino, main and dessert was about 44 euro. Well worth the price given the quality and effort put into these dishes. Felt like a fine dining experience.<br><br>The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, contributing to an overall positive and efficient dining experience. I would easily come here again should I find myself in Split in the future.<br><br>It is evident that the restaurant experiences a high level of patronage during the peak season months and as such I would suggest making reservations during these times.

We nearly did not try the Kavana Central seeing the its rating. In the end we decided to make up our own minds. As it turned out we were more than happy to have a quick lunch here at the Kavana before our visit to Diocletian’s Palace. The location is outstanding. Despite it being winter we enjoyed the alfresco setting looking onto the square immediately next to the west gate of the Palace. The Kavana sits alongside of remarkably preserved architecture which included structures built more than 1700 years ago.<br><br>Katerina, out friendly waitress was fantastic. This immediately made us feel we were going to Enjoy ourselves.<br><br>Be warned the wine list at the Kavana is brief, like many Croatian restaurants ,and very parochial. I don’t mind this as long as the wine is good. We found a delicious Dalmatian Chardonnay, this is always a fun part of the adventure.<br><br>To commence we had the cured salmon which paired well with our wine.<br><br>We tried the local Christmas meat loaf with gnocchi dressed in a rich red sauce. It was very tasty.<br><br>We hope you enjoy the Kavana Central as we did.

En se baladant dans la vieille ville, nous sommes tombés sur ce restaurant.<br>Roko, le serveur qui s'occupait de notre table était très accueillant, il nous a fait de chouette recommandations. L'ambiance du restaurant est agréable, la nourriture est goûteuse.<br>Je recommande à 100% ce restaurant et si vous avez la chance d'être servi par Roko, je vous garanti que vous allez passer un agréable moment.

Erg sjieke en goeie tent. De gerechten waren mooi en lekker divers, goeie combinatie tussen vlees vis en Vega. Het gerecht wat ik had was erg mooi opgemaakt en goed behave de tonijn die was wel een tikje taai om door te snijden. Zeker een van de betere plekken in split om te lunchen of dineren. Enig puntje wel: de dame in het zwart die bij de ingang stond gaf een erg afstotende indruk. Ze stond met een sip / chagrijnig gezicht naast de menukaart met haar armen over elkaar. Er kon geen lachje vanaf of een warm welkom. Snap niet waarom zo iemand daar staat want daar door waren wij en later andere gasten erg aan het twijfelen om naar binnen te gaan. Verder zeker een aanrader!

Roko was great! We had the monkfish, mussels and lamb cutlets. We also tried local merlot and rose wines along with the Litnja Noć cocktail. All were wonderful.

You can’t beat the location. It was right on Heritage Square. Great people watching. It was a beautiful evening and as it got darker more and more people were walking by. The service was average. The food was average to below average. The potatoes were extremely salty, and the waiter was overextended. I had the pistachio crusted fish which was supposed to be Seabass, but I think it was just a cod. I don’t think I’d go back there for the food.

A more pricy option to enjoy good food right in the central square of old Split.<br>I enjoyed dinner soaking in the relaxing atmosphere and buzzing of the old part of Split during the evening.<br>The staff provided a very pleasant experience and was very kind and accommodating and giving good recommendations about the menu.<br>I started with the broccoli shrimp soup, which was quite tasty and mild on the stomach. As a main dish I enjoyed the grilled calamari with mangold and ordered additionally grilled veggies as a side dish, which was an amazing combination of flavours. As dessert I was highly recommended the split cake, which did not disappoint as I’m a big fan of figs and nuts.<br>I highly recommend this establishment if you are looking for tasty and relaxing meal, while enjoying the city life of the old town of Split.
