6/7/24 ggl Saturday late afternoon - Football on TVs We three middle aged guys from London were keen to see the England v Switzerland match at 5pm. It was bright daylight then and watching on an outside screen would have been difficult. We found this place though in the main touristy pedestrian street to have two fairly large TVs, back to back, showing the same match. The reflections were minimal so we grabbed a table amongst other tourists and locals. Luckily there was a menu which specified big 500ml draft beer for 5 each (2 cheaper than the night before adding the road). The busy young (Pink Floyd fan) waiter took our orders off a big beer each and we settled down to watch kick off and fairly soon another bunch of English guys joined us behind. In time a mix of tourists with different allegiances filled the outside seats. The lone waiter was very busy! As the match progressed the Sun was setting so the picture improved. The beers were served in a variety of glasses (including chunky Starapramen) and were not always to the 500ml level, even taking into account the settling froth. At half time I settled the balance of 20 and asked for a receipt (just in case he lost track later). He could not provide one but said he would remember. The second half went 1:1 so extra time meant more beer which covered the penalty shoot out with England winning thankfully at 20:50. The tables emptied out. Once again there is an element of trust and the waiter was very busy so hopefully everyone paid up! We had lost track ourselves and decided another 20 was owed to the waiter which he duly accepted without question. I think he may have ended up with a 5 too but we were not arguing of bothered! We had had a good time. The local mosques' Call to Prayers started up just after the end which was a coincidence I'm sure! The only problems were the German/Swiss couple right next to me were constant smokers so smoke was in my face a lot. We were also seated over a drain which produced some small flies which bit my sensitive friends' legs, swelling up later on. We did not notice on our arrival so we covered the drain with maps.
